Ümit is a 3-minute thesis film that I am currently directing with the team of ten students at Savannah College of Art and Design. The goal of our thesis film is to tell a simple story about hope and generational change through unique visual elements of Central Asia. About the film: In a village without light, a young astronomer named Ümit is determined to bring back the long-lost Sun to her people. Set in the 15th-century Kazakh Kingdom—now modern-day Kazakhstan—the story unfolds in a world shrouded in darkness, where survival grows more difficult by the day. Ümit, inspired by hope, decides to create a tool to reunite her village with the Sun. At its core, the story centers on resilience and the power of hope—embodied in Ümit, whose name fittingly means "hope" in Kazakh.
